GuestLike manyothers, I’ve looking forward to a truly great Harry Potter game since I was in the third grade. Since then we’ve played some respectable LEGO Potter games, an subpar EA Sports Quidditch game for some reason, and even experienced the nightmare which is Harry Potter Kinect. Yet none of them has achieved the idea of receiving a Hogwarts admissions letter that opens the way to a completely different world. In the case of Hogwarts Legacy I’m happy to say that we finally have an Harry Potter game that captures some of the magic. The map’s open world design conveys the atmosphere that is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and features magical combat that’s amazingly good, the characters that inhabit it are charming and unforgettable and it’s full of endless entertainment options that will fill up many an hour of. It might not be the most remarkable technical accomplishment and is definitely plagued with a lackluster enemy range, but none of Hogwarts Legacy’s problems can create an unforgettable Descendo ambiance on this memorable trip to the Wizarding World.
Right in line with most Harry Potter tales before it, Legacy’s plot has more holes than a fishnet and octordle unlimited sorta just expects you to be able to accept that this magical world makes no sense. The mysterious third-person action adventure RPG begins by allowing you to transfer to Hogwarts as the fifth year’s witch or wizard (for unexplained reasons) to take on everything from attending classes to battling giant spiders with a magical stick, to flying around on an hippogriff. The fantastic character creator has plenty of options for you to create your perfect witch or wizard (apart from a limited selection of voices) Then as soon you’ve made the switch, they’ll get caught in a war among and the Wizarding World and a wicked goblin. In addition, because being in an underground wizard’s society does not seem to be thrilling enough and you’ll soon realize that you’ve got a plethora of super-charged magical powers that permit you to do a lot of exciting stuff that’s not really explained.
If you’re like me you’ll be squirming in moments where you’re introduced to 100 years’ worth of dead characters giving you advice from paintings on the importance of something that happened many years in the past and how you must saved the world or whatever. But once that’s over with Legacy mostly redeems itself with a fantastic cast of non-painting characters that help boil things down into a not-too-convoluted good-guys-versus-bad-guys conflict that ends up being an enjoyable tale, even if it’s not particularly profound or original.
The characters you’ll spend most times with will be friends who will accompany you while you’re on campus, assist you on various quests as well as help you improve your abilities as a magic user. Many of them are memorable, and instantly amusing, such Sebastian the brazen and morally trustworthy Slytherin or Natsai the sharp and unflappable Gryffindor Spending time with them and improving your social connections by following their quests to find out about their relationships is what made my experience at Hogwarts every bit as enjoyable.
In many ways, Hogwarts Legacy is the Harry Potter RPG I’ve been aching to get into. Its open-world adventure captures all the excitement and wonder in it’s Wizarding World with its memorable new characters as well as challenging and intricate combat and an excellently executed Hogwarts student adventure that kept me attached to my computer for a number of hours. The game is certainly burdened by the technical difficulties, the lackluster storyline, and low-quality enemies, however they’re not even close to breaking its enchanting spell over me. -
