Brian Birmingham: For me, Karazhan is top of the list of things to do. This has stayed with me over the years and has been one of my most memorable raidsdue to the fact that it’s the most amazing, fantastical castle that has a different surprise waiting around every corner with ghostly servants in Servants Quarters to otherworldly dragons on the top floor, and demons hidden in the bookshelves. It’s awe-inspiring; the variety of fascinating and amazing encounters that you experience as you travel through this creepy haunted castle is something I cherish every moment.
John Hight: That’s tough. I’m a huge fan of farming, so I’m looking forward to getting another drake to fight over those eggs. I played on an PVP realm and it was definitely an enjoyable but sometimes painful experience but certainly a major accomplishment after I had them. I’m thinking of the dome-shaped cities or biomes are a highlight of Netherstorm. I remember when I was a kid, I saw the sci-fi movie Silent Running where they have these dome cities out in space. It was like “Oh I like that! That’s a really cool idea.” It’s now inside WoW and where else could you create a world of fantasy that features domed cities created by Ethereal travelers from a different time?
I remember crawling up the hills of Zangarmarsh, all the way across into Nagrand and , of course, being killed and having think, “Where the heck was my corpse?” And spending another hour trying to find it. It’s pretty insane. I’m sure the imagination of that team has always blown me however I think they set the right mood with Burning Crusade. It was…definitely wanting to one up what they had done with WoW, which is now WoW Classic. I believe that’s set the stage for the subsequent expansions. I’m sure that when we are talking about Shadowlands we’d like it feel very different and we come back to “Yeah and think about the variety they offered with Burning Crusade. This is the norm; we’ve got to do that or better.”
A huge part that was added to this was of the new races which included the Draenei as well as the Blood Elves. Can you briefly take us through the concept and the implementation of those and how you think, as best as you remember how you were thinking their arrival could affect the meta-game overall?
